Relative Error

Relative Error — the NEET Physics formula with its derivation, variables, validity constraints and worked solver.

Relative Error Applicable in all experimental physics and engineering contexts to quantify the precision of a measurement relative to the scale of the measurement. Define Absolute Error ( x) as the difference between measured and true value. Define Relative Error (E rel ) as the ratio of Absolute Error to the True Value to normalize the error against the scale of measurement. Resulting formula: E rel = x / x. x must not be zero. Confusing Relative Error with Percentage Error (Relative Error 100). Thinking Relative Error has units (it is dimensionless). Believing a constant Absolute Error implies a constant Relative Error across different scales.
